Comité Bulletins

The complete collection of the Bulletins of the Comité de Conservation des Monuments de l'Art Arabe in French and Arabic. The Bulletins are a standard resource for the study of the Islamic architecture of Cairo as they describe the restoration work on all its Islamic monuments between 1882 - 1953. They include photographs, drawings, and plans of buildings that have disappeared and of others distorted by later restoration work. For this reason they are invaluable. They also have full descriptions of these monuments and their historical backgrounds.

Photo Archive

A Photo Archive consisting of a searchable database of contemporary photographs of Islamic buildings. The Network is currently documenting photographically all Islamic monuments in Egypt and in the future those of other important cities such as Isfahan, Istanbul, Damascus and Fez.

Creswell Exhibition

Creswell’s Cairo: Then and Now; a virtual exhibition in honour of the Professor Sir Keppel Archibald Cameron Creswell which has taken a selection of the black and white photographs from his photo archive at the Rare Books and Special Collections Library, and matched these with colour photographs shot from an identical perspective in the year 2003.

This section of the Network makes available an excellent collection of out of print books on Islamic history, art and architecture, in a database that enables one to view and browse them easily. This is a work in progress, as additional books will be posted over time.
